Alaska Adventure Travel Trip Planner

Kodiak Lodge Flights: At Kodiak Lodge we are committed to providing the highest quality experience for our clients. As with any remote destination, a "hassle-free" travel experience is an important part of your vacation. To make sure you have no surprises during your flights to and from Kodiak Lodge please take a moment to read information that follows.

Some of our trip packages include roundtrip charter air service from Anchorage to the Lodge in Larsen Bay, and we use only the finest charter airlines with the highest regard for safety. One of the most important factors in flying throughout Alaska is weight. On these flights we allow for the weight of the passenger, plus 50lbs of luggage and one box of fish of 50 lbs on the return flight to Anchorage. Most first-time travelers tend to over pack, so bring only what you will need and remember we have complimentary laundry service during your stay.

If you do wish to go over the listed weights or want to bring more fish home, any related expense will be your responsibility. You have several different options. For example, you may choose to send your clothing home via the U.S. Mail. A second option is to upgrade the aircraft to accommodate more weight. You may also choose to send your additional weight home via Kodiak city.

If you are flying through Kodiak City be aware that local scheduled flights allow for the passenger and 50lbs only: additional weight is charged .50 cents per pound. The major airlines will list weight allowances on their websites and additional weight is solely you responsibility.

For additional information or to charter direct, you may wish to contact the following charter companies:

1. Security Aviation: (800) 478-7880 or (907) 248-2677, www.securityaviation.biz
2. Jim Air: (907) 243-5161, www.flyjimair.com
3. Island Air Services: (800) 478-6196 or (907) 487-4596
4. Andrew Airways: (907) 487-2566, www.andrewairways.com
5. Era Aviation: (800) 866-8394, www.eraaviation.com

Because there is no direct flight service from the lower 48 to the lodge, you must first fly into either Kodiak City or Anchorage. If direct airfare is not included in your trip price you'll need to fly into Kodiak City on regularly scheduled flights offered by Alaska Airlines or ERA air. Then on to Larsen Bay via Island Air or Andrew Airways who flies small planes from Kodiak. It is usually possible to get to the lodge all in one day though on the return flight you may wish to stay overnight in Anchorage or Kodiak to avoid flying all night. Guests using the direct charter service from Anchorage should plan to arrive into Anchorage by 1:00pm and depart Anchorage on the return flight no sooner than 6:00pm to ensure you'll make your flight. Guests traveling via Kodiak City should arrive anytime before 5:00pm and plan to depart after 5:00pm.

If you are traveling through Kodiak & on to the lodge you'll need to reserve space with Island Air (907) 486-619 or Andrew Airways (907) 487-2566 .Once you receive your bags contact them for transportation to their airfield that is just minutes away. You can check your bags with them and if you have time before departure, take some time to walk downtown and explore Kodiak! For sightseeing information, stop by the Kodiak Island Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce. They're located at 100 Marine Way.

If you'd like to stay overnight in Kodiak may we recommend: The Best Western Kodiak Inn (www.kodiakinn.com); 1-888-KODIAK-4; Shelikof Lodge (www.ptialaska.net/~kyle) 907-486-4141; or the Buskin River Inn (www.kodiakadventure.com) 800-544-2202.

If you are traveling through Anchorage & on to the lodge you'll want to contact Security Aviation (907) 248-2677 or Jim Air (907) 243-5161 when you've picked up your luggage from baggage claim. They will pick you up and take you to their hangar where you can have some coffee or tea while waiting to depart, or go into town to some sightseeing or have a nice lunch.

If you'd like to stay overnight in Anchorage may we recommend: The Millennium Alaskan Hotel www.millenniumhotels.com/anchorage (907) 226-2231; Marriott Hotel (www.marriott.com) 907-279-8000; or the Captain Cook Hotel (www.captaincook.com) 800-843-1950.

Because Larsen Bay is a dry community, to purchase liquor or beer you must do so while in Kodiak City or Anchorage. Or we can order it for you, just callus with your order prior to departure and we'll make sure it is on the plane with your luggage.

When packing, Prepare for temperatures ranging from 50-80'. Layered clothing works best. You can always remove excess clothing if you get to warm. Although the weather is good, it's best to always be prepared in Alaska and bring Thermax underwear, turtlenecks, sweaters, t-shirts and a warm jacket. Don't forget a good pair of polarized sunglasses and a bathing suit if your would like to relax in our hot tub at the end of a long day of fishing. Of course don't leave home without your camera and lots of film! The lodge has laundry service available so you can pack light. Please pack your clothes into a soft-sided bag if possible, this makes it easier for the airline to load the plane. You can also pack your clothes into a 50-qt cooler along with a duffel type bag. Upon your return trip, you can pack your clothes in the duffel bag and your fish in the cooler. This will insure that your fish will arrive home frozen in the event your baggage is lost. However, we will be happy to pack your fish in airline approved wet lock boxes. We do have raingear, boots and waders, however many people prefer their own.
